Biography

Serge Bignens holds a Master in Science in mechanical engineering from the EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland and Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, USA, and a Master of Advanced Studies in health economics and management from the University of Lausanne.

He has worked in software development and management in the IT industry and then joined the health department of the Canton de Vaud where he defined and lead the implementation of the regional eHealth strategy.

Since summer 2014, he is professor for Medical Informatics at the University of Applied Sciences Bern. His research topics are interoperability of personal health records and patient empowerment through mobile health apps. He is speaker and working group member at national and international congresses of medical informatics.
